Ragnit (Ragainė)¶

In the 1380s-1400s [Historical record]¶

An Order castle on the Nemunas, about 60 km below Jurbarkas (Jurbarkas) and about 70 km from Tapiau. Its komtur in 1390 was Marquard von Salzbach; he brought the Order’s knights to Vytautas by the Salynas treaty and fought at the Vorskla in 1399.

Book I ch. 19 has Vytautas baptised with the komtur of Ragnit, Wigand von Beldersheim, as godfather (the record gives the baptism at Tapiau in 1383; see Tapiau). Book II ch. 22 and the afterword name Marquard as the komtur who marched the Order’s column.
