Skirgaila dies in Kyiv¶
What the chronicles say [Historical record]¶
Skirgaila died in Kyiv in January 1397, on 11 January (some sources give 8 January); he was buried in the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The circumstances of his death are not entirely clear. He had been Duke of Trakai (1382–92) and Jogaila’s regent in Lithuania (1386–92), was moved to Kyiv after Ostrów, and held it from 1395. The Wikipedia article gives no cause; poison is rumoured in later accounts.
