Summary¶

Danila is a loyal chancery scribe and personal chamber servant to Grand Duke Vytautas throughout his later years in Vilnius and Trakai (Book IV). He handles correspondence, manages parchment and seals, and attends to the aging duke as his sight and hearing fade.

Appearance & tells¶

A quiet, ink-stained clerk in modest wool robes, moving without sound between the archive chests and the duke’s table. Attentive and discreet, he knows when to read aloud, when to hold the parchment, and when to step into the shadow of the door.

Book IV (1411–1430). Serves as Vytautas’s trusted chancery scribe. Present during diplomatic correspondence across Ruthenia and the West; reads letters into Vytautas’s right ear after the duke loses his reading sight; attends the duke during his final illness at Trakai.
